Will I be able to pay support if I apply for Unemployment Compensation?
Unemployment Compensation is an attachable income source; therefore, deductions will continue towards your child support obligations. The Support Enforcement Tracking System (SETS) automatically interfaces with the Ohio Job Insurance system (OJI). If the OJI file matches the SETS file, an automatic Income Withholding Order is generated. Support can be deducted up to the amount of the child support order.
When applying for unemployment compensation, applicants must disclose if they have a child support order. If the obligor voluntarily enters an amount of support owed, and that amount matches the SETS system, that amount will be withheld. If the amount voluntarily entered by the obligor does not match the SETS system, it will likely result in a double withholding. If a double withholding for the same order occurs, please contact CSEA.
